3/10/07 Structure Fire: Elderly Nursing Home

Today, 3/10/2007 at 0409 hours, a fire alarm was received at dispatch for L.S.C. Nursing home. First arriving officer found smoke in the building, and determined origin in the basement. A second alarm assignment was immediately struck, with addition of and EMS Response.
The Fire was contained to a room in the basement, and held in check by sprinklers, until CHFD engine crew could go to work.
Smoke had filled the hallways in the wing above the fire, and staff started moving patient bed's to the front of the building, which is a separate wing of the facility.
EMS Crews started the process for relocating patients to other facilities. A total of 8 patients of the original 24 were moved off site. EMS made plans to evacuate the entire facility if needed, which would have added an additional 36 patients to the mix (total= 60 pts).
A separate EMS Sector was started in the front of the building. A mutual aid call out was made, bringing a total of 11 transport ambulances, and one fly car paramedic to the scene. (courtesy of colchesterfd.com report)
