5/16 MVA w/ Entrapment

At ~11:30, CHFD responded to RT.85 @ Lake Hayward Rd for a 2 car MVA with entrapment. Rescue 1 went to work upon arrival, PT extricated and delivered to EMS w/ minor injuries.

4/26 City of Norwich Fire



Colchester FD was requested to respond to the City of Norwich to assist with the multi-alarm fire. Ladder 128 was special called to provide coverage to Norwich City Fire HQ covering the city and East Great Plains. Engine 328 also responded and covered Bozrah/Yantic districts.

4/16 Island Fire


After driving around looking for access it was determined that Colchester actually has an Island (who knew?). The Marine unit with a borrowed pump from DEP was used to gain access and mop up.

4/12/08 Benefit Seminar: NY Burn Center



Members of Station 28 participated in the 2nd annual LT. James Curran Seminar to benefit the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation. A special thanks to Chief Geraghty for allowing access to the entire facility and to all the instructors for a quality program.

3/30 Brush Fire: CHFD Aviation Unit Footage

Colchester FD is fortunate to have a group of local pilots who provide aerial recon at incidents. The volunteer Aviation Unit (Air 1-28)has donated special portable radios to allow for real time communication with the incident commander and they are able to provide immediate aerial size ups and progress reports. Thanks guys!

3/23 MVA w/ Lifestar

1 Car MVA reported serious with 1 unconscious. R-628 performed a quick assesment and transported ALS to a modified LZ in Marlborough. Companies on scene performed thorough secondary searches for a possible 2nd victim with assistance from the PD & K-9 unit.

The routine fire turned not so routine when first due units arrived finding a resident with significant burns to the legs and hand. A quick reponse prevented extension to structure, 1 PT transported for burns.

After a 12 run day, members at Station 28 were sitting down for a BBQ dinner,when a report of a BBQ fire with exposures was received. ET1-28 arrived finding a gas grill on fire with extension. One line controlled the fire with Ladder 1-28 assisting the Engine.

2/9 Bozrah Fire




CHFD responded with a full asignment to Bozrah for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival of Bozrah units, a working fire in a loaded trailer adjacent to a structure was found. CHFD worked with Bozrah, Yantic & Mohegan Tribal FDs on this small but unique fire.

2/8 Explosion w/ Burn Victims


CHFD responded to Marlborough for a report of an explosion with multiple serious burn victims. R6-28 arrived first due (MFD operating at another incident and EHFD delayed) finding several burn victims including a critical pediatric with significant burns. Patient was transported via Lifestar to NY Burn Center.

1 Car MVA w/ entrapment. Rescue 1 arrived initiating PT care, stabilization and putting multiple tools into operation. ET-1 controlled hazards, placing a protective line into operation. PT extricated and transported via lifestar. Car 3 had command.
